Summary: Stephen Brookfield on Creative & Critical Thinking

On this video Stephen said too much interesting things, he talked about how he has developed Critical and creative thinking on his students. There were some aspects I found interesting about his teaching practice. He said that his teaching practice was affected for his role as a child student. He said that  beeing a bad student helped him to understand the role of the teacher he wanted to be, because he wanted a teacher in who believe, someone closer, that’s why he tries to be a reliable teacher for his students. About critical thinking he said that he is aware of the assumptions that frame the way he thinks, and how he takes life decisions. “Critical thinking is to prepare you to take more informed actions”. Moreover, he states that someone who thinks creatively is able to view ideas and practices from multiple viewpoints. Something interesting was how he said that he treat his depression, how at the beginning he had a narrow mind, he used to think that if he used antidepressa...
TASK NUMBER 5 Barriers that I consider might be affecting my critical thinking abilities: Reluctance to criticise those with more expertice, affective reasons, and mistaking information for understanding. I think that trying to manage these barriers could be hardworking. Firstly, because they are related with my personality patrons. There is affective reasons, the first one, requires too much security, and there is a lack of that on me. The following one, is too much hard, because when i don't like someone, I don't like the things that person does. It means to leave hatred away. And that is very hard.
TASK NUMBER 4 I am totally agree with Bodner's description, I think most of what is taught at schools not goes beyond. Knowledge is given, and independently if students got it, students do not care about if that is true or not, if that new thing that was taught is relevant and how that can contribute to their lifes. That's why is very important the reflection we make about the teaching practice. Also, I think, that the practice is very important in the learning process, it help us to get a better understanding.
TASK NUMBER 3 Challenging Opinions The part that I find most difficult when I have to consider other people opinions, fisrtly, when it is about me is very difficult because I consider that no one knows too much as I know of myself, so I believe they don't have enough authority of saying what they are saying. Even though, sometimes it is good to listen another person, because they sometimes can see what I can't see of me. So, when someone tell me something, or gives their opinion I consider what they are saying, after, if I still belive they are wrong or if what they said is still around my head, I get a closer meeting with myself, and according to what I find I restate some things on me. Or sometimes I ignore that, I do what I belive better for myself.
TASK NUMBER 2 Influences on My Thinking I think that emotional balence plays an important role on the influences of my thinking and for being self-awareness. Many times, when I am not very good, I loose my compass but that's the moment when I deeply reflect about my life, my projects and my aspirations. I question myself about what is going wrong and even I plan some strategies for improving myself. Even though, many times I do not accomplish what I said to myself, or sometimes those strategies do not work, so, it makes hard being me.

REFLECTION TASKS

TASK NUMBER 1 Emotional Self-management  Firstly, I think it is important to hide light that I am not a very bad temper girl. But many times when people are not agreeing with me, I find this annoying. Nevertheless, i believe that most of the time, the way I react depends on who is the person contradicts me and also, it depends on the subject of the discussion. I mean, if the person is someone who i don't like too much, o their attitude is rude, I get angry, even though I listen carefully their arguments. On the other hand, if it is about a subject that I know too much and I am strongly sure about my thoughts, I defend them, but I try to pay attention to the other person. I am always willing to listen, almost most of the time.  Finally, i find necessary to tell that I never argue, and when the talk starts to be difficult, I try to keep my patience, and then I wait, and try to drive things calmly. If things do not work, I keep quiet.
